Gym operator plans to bulk up national portfolio
The Gym Group says it “remains on track” to open at least 20 sites in 2026.
The low-cost fitness operator says the move follows strong demand from younger members.
Bosses say it opened four sites in the first half of the year, is on site at a further two locations and has exchanged on 11 further venues.
The blueprint came as the London-headquartered firm – which runs more than 260 gyms across England, Scotland and Wales – reported average member numbers jumped five per cent to more than one million in the six months to June 30.
Total half-year revenues were up ten per cent to £133.1 million on a year ago.
Like-for-like revenues rose by three per cent.
Chief executive Will Orr told the Press Association that the group has a “full pipeline” of new locations, with some in central London, as well as other parts of the UK.
He added: “We are pleased with our trading performance in the year to date, which reflects the continued appeal of our proposition and strength of customer demand.
“Reaching one million members is an encouraging milestone for us in a UK fitness market that continues to grow.”
The group said it expects its net debt level to increase from £58 million by the end of 2026 as it funds new openings and refurbishments.
