Kent Skincare Expert Becomes Bestseller Knocking Ruth Langsford Off the Top Spot

From Fully Booked To Freedom lands as an Amazon bestseller as beauty industry mentor Kelly Chaplin, known professionally as Kelly Rose, launches her debut book calling time on the burnout culture that she says is quietly destroying the beauty industry.

An award winning skincare specialist who once sat in a treatment room hiding her own acne, whose grief of losing her father led her to closing her fully booked clinic, and who has now rebuilt not one but three businesses from the ground up, is excited to share the lessons she’s learnt during nearly a decade of hard-won experience as a beauty industry entrepreneur. Her new book From Fully Booked To Freedom,  took the industry by storm as it hit No.1 Bestseller in the Amazon book charts, on launch day across Beauty Therapy, Retailing, Small Business and Beauty & Fashion, knocking Ruth Langsford off the top spot and climbing above global marketing guru Alex Hormozi.

Kelly Chaplin, 34, known professionally as Kelly Rose, is excited to bring this book to the world, after a year of creation, and the Kent beauty industry expert has one mission -to help beauty industry business owners understand that ‘fully booked’ should not be the goal.

Kelly celebrated the launch with an audience of beauty, skincare, aesthetics and hair professionals, and the book is already being described by readers as the practical roadmap the industry has long been waiting for.

Kelly’s route to entrepreneurship started in her teenage years, when money was tight and her parents struggled to make ends meet, despite both her parents working full time. She had to find her own source of money, so she sold handmade costume jewellery on eBay at just 13 years old, sometimes earning several hundred pounds a month. At school, her efforts were impacted by bullying and severe anxiety which saw her attendance fall below 60 per cent, yet she studied from home and secured nine GCSEs, developing a resilience she credits as foundational to everything that has followed. In her early twenties, a battle with acne that had stripped her of her confidence led her to discover chemical peels, and that transformative experience sparked a new career direction entirely.

Before training as a skin specialist, Kelly had already amassed an eclectic and impressive career portfolio that included roles with Marriott Hotels, a specialist hair loss consultancy, a business consultancy and The Royal Society, the UK’s national academy of science, where she authored an article for the World Economic Forum on research culture. It was the death of her father at 29, however, that proved the most significant turning point. Fully booked, completely burnt out and running a successful clinic that had begun to feel like a trap rather than a triumph, Kelly closed the business, went travelling and came back with a clear vision: to rebuild entirely on her own terms.

What followed was a period of extraordinary growth. Kelly went on to build three businesses spanning skincare, coaching and the beauty industry’s own awards platform, The Beauty and Skincare Awards UK. The accolades have accumulated steadily alongside the businesses, with wins including New Business of the Year, Beauty Salon of the Year, Business Woman of the Year, Skincare Specialist of the Year and Industry Trainer of the Year across multiple ceremonies, as well as two Health and Beauty Champion of the Year titles and a Skin Clinic of the Year award at the Kent Health and Beauty Awards in 2025.

From Fully Booked To Freedom was born from Kelly’s determination to create the resource she wishes had existed when she was at her most overwhelmed. Across its pages she sets out a clear, practical roadmap covering pricing strategy, recurring revenue, client retention, boundaries and time management, all written specifically for the realities of life in a treatment room. The foreword was penned by fellow bestselling beauty entrepreneur Katie Godfrey, whose own book topped Amazon’s charts last year.

“I wanted to write the book I wish I’d had when I was fully booked, burnt out and wondering why the dream I’d worked so hard for didn’t feel as good as it looked. So many beauty professionals are incredible at what they do, but end up trapped in the day-to-day busyness of clients, messages, admin and social media. This book is my answer to that.”

“My goal with this book is simple: to genuinely help people in our industry create the lives and businesses they dreamed of when they first started. I’ve always loved helping others, and I wanted to write something that felt supportive, not overwhelming.”

The book is designed to be practical and easy to implement. You can take one idea, one exercise or one strategy at a time and put it into action straight away, knowing that each small step will genuinely help to make a positive shift in your business and life. It’s packed with the lessons, tools and insights I’ve learned over the last decade that I know work in the real world of salons, treatment rooms and clinics.

It is a message Kelly delivers with characteristic directness. She is passionate about challenging the industry’s deeply embedded belief that being fully booked equals success, arguing that for too many beauty professionals this aspiration has quietly become a very expensive trap. With no equivalent career pathway teaching beauty professionals how to think like business owners, set pricing policies or build recurring income streams, Kelly believes the gap between skill and business acumen is costing the industry not just income but health, family time and long-term careers.

“You didn’t build your beauty business to be exhausted, underpaid and glued to your diary. Your business should work for your life, not become your whole life. If your business is great financially but you’ve got no time, feel burnt out and your health and family are suffering in the process, that is not success. That is a very expensive trap.”

Kelly mentors skin specialists and solo therapists to go from fully booked and burnt out to building a more profitable, structured business, so they can make more money, work less, and create the freedom and lifestyle they started their business for in the first place.

Here she shares five quick-win strategies from the book that any beauty professional can begin implementing immediately:

  • Raise your prices with intention. Even small, strategic price rises can move you closer to a business that pays you properly. Know your numbers and price with profit in mind, not based on what competitors are charging.
  • Build recurring revenue into your business. Memberships and treatment packages mean you are no longer starting every month on zero. Guaranteed income changes everything, from financial pressure to decision-making confidence.
  • Focus on loyalty, not just new clients. Prioritising the clients you already have creates greater stability, better retention and a far less exhausting business to run day to day.
  • Create clear boundaries and hold them. Whether that is reply times, working hours or protecting your personal diary, boundaries are not just nice-to-haves, they’re essential. They are the foundations of a business that does not run your life.
  • Track where your time and energy are leaking. Group tasks into focused time blocks, pay attention to your energy levels and stop treating constant availability as a professional virtue. When your energy is high, prioritise deep work. When it is low, tackle the simple admin.

With more than half of the UK's beauty businesses failing to turn a profit, and a workforce that shrank by more than 16,000 people in a single year as professionals walked away from an industry they once loved, the crisis facing beauty business owners has never been more urgent or more visible. Research published in peer-reviewed journal ScienceDirect has confirmed what many in the industry already know from lived experience: that the emotional labour demanded of hair and beauty workers carries serious long-term consequences, including depression, anxiety and burnout that, without intervention, can escalate to breaking point. It is a reality that Kelly knows intimately, and one that drove every word of From Fully Booked To Freedom.

Following the launch, Kelly will be opening up new spaces on her one-to-one mentoring programmes for skin specialists and beauty business owners who are ready to take the book’s strategies further. She is also planning an expanded slate of educational industry events, with speaking appearances already confirmed at Beauty Business Elevation in June 2026 and Skin Symposium by Scin Events in November 2026.
