Work begins on 299-home Spennymoor scheme
A housebuilder has broken ground on a new development in Spennymoor, with the first properties due to be released next year.
Barratt Homes has officially started construction of Whitworth Dene, a new development within Whitworth Park.
The scheme will deliver 299 two, three and four-bedroom homes, offering a range of properties for buyers across County Durham.
It follows the success of the housebuilder’s nearby Burton Woods development and is expected to attract strong interest from local house hunters.
A ceremonial sod-cutting marked the start of construction.
Jo Ainsley, managing director at Barratt Homes North East, said: “We are excited to begin work at Whitworth Dene.
“In a sought-after area, set within Whitworth Park, residents will be nearby green, open-space, presenting a particularly unique opportunity for families and second-time buyers.
“We expect the new homes to prove particularly popular and we are looking forward to delivering brand-new energy-efficient homes and helping prospective buyers find their ideal homes in County Durham.”
Barratt Homes plans to open a sales centre later this year, with the first homes expected to be available in early 2027.
