Higgins to deliver school and homes project
A construction firm has been appointed to deliver a new primary school and dozens of affordable homes in Hammersmith.
Hammersmith & Fulham Council has appointed Higgins Partnerships to rebuild Avonmore Primary School alongside the construction of 91 mixed-tenure homes, half of which will be affordable and prioritised for eligible local residents.
The development will provide modern learning facilities for pupils and staff, including dedicated space for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), enhanced outdoor play areas and more than 2200sq metres of flexible teaching space.
Councillor Alex Sanderson, deputy leader of Hammersmith & Fulham Council, said: “We are determined to make Hammersmith and Fulham one of the very best places in the country to grow up.
“The rebuild of Avonmore Primary School will deliver a new, state-of-the-art building for pupils and teachers, and help boost our strong record of educational success in the borough.
“The development will also provide 91 new homes for local residents of which half will be affordable as we build more homes than ever in Hammersmith and Fulham to give local families the chance to put down roots here as we make the borough a stronger, safer and kinder place.”
Designed by BPTW in collaboration with Walter & Cohen, the scheme will also include two residential buildings and more than 1500sq metres of outdoor play space, including rooftop facilities for the school.
Sustainability is a key feature of the project, with the development targeting net-zero carbon through a 74 per cent reduction in operational emissions, complemented by green roofs, around 100 solar panels and new tree planting.
The school is also expected to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating.
Declan Higgins, chief executive of Higgins Partnerships, added: “We are proud to have been appointed by Hammersmith & Fulham Council to deliver the Avonmore School development, which builds on our successful partnership at Hartopp and Lannoy Point.
“By combining new homes with essential education provision, this scheme demonstrates how partnership-led development can help meet housing demand, while delivering lasting benefits for the local community.”

The proposals were developed following extensive consultation with local residents, community groups, parents, pupils and school leaders before planning approval.
