Boyds appoints chief medical officer

Boyds, a global drug development consultancy headquartered in Crewe, has appointed Laurence Skillern as chief medical officer, strengthening its senior leadership team as it continues to expand its medical and clinical expertise.

Laurence brings extensive experience in pharmaceutical medicine and clinical development, having held senior leadership roles across a number of leading biopharmaceutical organisations, including Pfizer, Merck, Astellas Pharma, Ferring Pharmaceuticals and most recently Freya Biosciences. 

His career also includes roles as a senior medical assessor at the MHRA's predecessor organisation and head of an academic Clinical Trials Unit at the University of East Anglia.

In his new role, Laurence will lead Boyds’ medical and clinical strategy, supporting clients throughout the drug development process while further enhancing the company's medical and regulatory capabilities. 

He has significant expertise across a broad range of therapy areas and has led clinical development programmes from early-stage research through to regulatory submission.

Laurence’s appointment reflects Boyds’ continued investment in senior scientific leadership as it strengthens its support for pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients developing innovative therapies for patients worldwide.
