Builder poised to start work on 158-home estate
A housebuilder is set to start work on a 158-property pit village development.
Miller Homes is primed to break ground on a County Durham estate “in the coming weeks”.
Officials say the venture – based in Ushaw Moor, near Durham City – will “turn a patch of agricultural land into a vibrant new community”.
The scheme, known as Deerness Rise, will include three, four and five-bed homes.
The company says the project will additionally deliver a “substantial refurbishment” to St Luke’s Church Hall, with kitchen, toilet, heating, flooring and decorative upgrades planned for the building that will neighbour the Deerness Rise estate.
The housebuilder will also use the base while a permanent on-site sales office is erected.
Lauren Angus, Miller Homes North East sales director, said: “This is a superb site with fantastic views in a much-sought-after countryside location.
“Projects like this enable us to give back to people in Ushaw Moor too.
“Our work to upgrade elements of St Luke’s will mean we enhance this valuable community asset and hopefully enable generations of village residents to enjoy it for years to come.”
Peter Whitton, a St Luke’s Church custodian, added: “We are delighted to work with Miller Homes and secure these upgrades to our church hall, the upkeep of which can be a real challenge.”
