The team at AR Power celebrate being named Indirect Supplier of the Year by Komatsu

Award win caps year of growth for AR Power

A North East renewable energy specialist has capped a year of growth with a industry award recognising its work on a flagship commercial solar project.

Washington-based AR Power was named Indirect Supplier of the Year (FY25) by manufacturing giant Komatsu for delivering a large-scale solar PV installation at the company’s Birtley facility.

The accolade comes as AR Power prepares to celebrate its 15th anniversary and follows a series of senior leadership appointments to support the next phase of the company’s growth.

Chris Balmer has been appointed managing director, while Luke Lubo has been promoted to technical director and former technical director Mark Dunville has moved into a board advisory role.

The Komatsu project is expected to cut the site’s carbon emissions by almost 370,000kg of CO₂e each year while delivering annual energy cost savings of almost £400,000.

Chris said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for AR Power, winning this award from Komatsu is a fantastic endorsement of the quality of our work and the commitment of our entire team.

“To be recognised by such a prestigious global manufacturer is something we’re immensely proud of.

“The award reflects not only the successful delivery of a complex solar installation but also our unwavering focus on safety, sustainability, and customer service.

“Our teams ensured all CDM requirements were met while keeping disruption to the site's day-to-day operations to an absolute minimum.”

AR Power provides commercial solar installations for organisations across the public and private sectors, working with NHS trusts, universities, local authorities, manufacturers and businesses throughout the UK.

The company has also recently secured a contract with garden products manufacturer Hozelock at its Birmingham facility, reflecting its growing national presence.

Chris added: “As we approach our 15th anniversary, we’re looking firmly to the future.

“We’ve strengthened our leadership team, secured a number of significant new contracts and continue to see growing demand from organisations looking to reduce energy costs and accelerate their journey towards net-zero.

“Commercial solar has never been more relevant.

“Businesses and public sector organisations alike are looking for long-term energy stability and sustainable solutions, and we’re proud to be helping clients across the UK make that transition.”
