Breck agrees church site deal for 136-home scheme
A brownfield site in Merseyside is set to be transformed into more than 100 affordable homes under plans to bring a long-vacant plot back into use.
Breck Homes has exchanged contracts with the Archdiocese of Liverpool to acquire a 6.7-acre site beside St Dominic’s Church in Huyton.
The land, formerly home to St Dominic’s RC Primary School, has remained vacant since the school closed in 2011.
Subject to approval from Knowsley Council, the development will deliver 136 affordable homes, including a mix of one to four-bedroom houses and one and two-bedroom apartments, alongside landscaped public open space.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027 if planning permission is granted.
Phil Dolan, managing director – North West, Breck Homes said: “This is an important brownfield site which has been unused for many years, and we believe there is a real opportunity to bring it back into positive use for the benefit of the local community.
“Huyton, like many areas across the North West, needs more good quality affordable homes, and our aim is to create a place that provides these, improve a long-unused site and make a positive contribution to Huyton.
“We understand how important this site is locally, particularly given its connection to St Dominic’s Church and the former school. That is why we want to work carefully and constructively with residents, the parish, the Archdiocese and Knowsley Council as the plans move forward.”
A spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Liverpool said: “The Archdiocese of Liverpool is delighted to be working with Breck Homes on this project.
“Following a rigorous selection process, we are confident that the land at the rear of St Dominic's Church has been entrusted to a developer capable of delivering high-quality affordable homes that will bring lasting benefits to the local community.”
Breck is also holding a public consultation event at The Gate Community Centre in Huyton on Thursday, July 16, giving residents the opportunity to view the proposals and provide feedback.
