Engineer looks to build after factory investment
A family-run engineering firm is aiming to fashion fresh growth after a factory and machinery investment.
QCD Precision has moved to a base in Ashington, Northumberland.
The company has also bought equipment it says will strengthen manufacturing operations and “build the next stage of the business” in the North East.
Officials say the investment has already created two jobs, “with further employment growth expected as the company increases production capacity and takes on larger projects”.
Formerly based in nearby Blyth, the business supplies components to sectors including the aerospace, automotive, defence, energy, heavy industrial and marine markets.
Greg Stephenson, QCD Precision commercial manager, said: “We are very proud to be a Northumberland business and part of the region’s strong manufacturing and engineering base.
“The move to Ashington is a major step forward for us.
“It gives us the space and capacity to continue growing while remaining firmly rooted in Northumberland.”
The business’ expansion was fuelled by support from Northumberland Small Business Service.
The venture is funded by the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority through its Rural Growth Programme and Integrated Settlement.
Northumberland County Council acts as lead delivery partner, with support from Durham County Council, Gateshead Council, Northumberland National Park Authority, Food and Drink North East and North East Enterprise Agency.
Councillor Richard Wearmouth, Northumberland County Council cabinet member for economy and regeneration, added: “We are excited to see the future for QCD Precision and the positive impact the company has in the county.
“Northumberland Small Business Service is here to support all businesses of all sizes and sectors in Northumberland.”
