Padelsphere set to serve up Blyth venue
One of the UK’s fastest-growing sports is set to arrive in Northumberland with the opening of a new indoor venue in Blyth.
Padelsphere is set to open later this summer, bringing three indoor padel courts, a café, bar and social spaces to a 10,000sq ft site at Progressive Court on Spencer Road.
The venue will feature two doubles courts and one singles court, along with changing facilities, saunas and lounge areas, creating what is expected to be one of the county’s largest dedicated indoor sports venues.
Beyond the courts, Padelsphere plans to establish itself as a community hub, with junior coaching, school partnerships, holiday camps, corporate events and inclusive sessions for players of all ages and abilities.
The opening comes as demand for padel continues to grow across the UK, with players in Northumberland often travelling to Newcastle or Durham to access courts.
Padelsphere aims to bring the sport closer to more than 80,000 residents across Blyth and the surrounding area, while introducing newcomers to the game.
Akshay Ohari, founder and chief executive of Padelsphere, said: “We built Padelsphere because Northumberland deserved a proper home for this sport.
“Padel is the most fun you can have with a racket in your hand, and it doesn’t matter if you’ve never played a sport in your life or if you’re already competitive, everyone has a great time.
“Blyth is the perfect location for us; the town is going through an incredible period of change and we’re proud to be part of that story.
“We hope Padelsphere shows that ambitious new businesses can thrive here.”

Padelsphere has received support from Business Northumberland, which has helped raise awareness of the venue through its networks and provided advice as the team prepares to recruit staff ahead of opening.
The launch also comes as Blyth continues to undergo significant regeneration, with projects including the Energising Blyth programme, Energy Central Campus and the Northumberland Line helping drive investment into the town.
Councillor Richard Wearmouth, cabinet member for regeneration at Northumberland County Council, added: “This is a great addition to Northumberland, and Blyth in particular, and we’re pleased to have been able to support Padelshere
“This is an exciting time for Blyth as the town continues to flourish – drawing in many new and innovative businesses.”
Akshay added: “Business Northumberland have been brilliant.
“They’ve been genuinely enthusiastic about what we’re building from day one.
“From promoting us within their networks to helping us connect with other local businesses, having that level of support behind us has made a real difference.”
Padelsphere is expected to open in late July or early August, with bookings available through Playtomic and walk-in sessions offered subject to availability.
The team is also documenting the full journey to opening through a behind-the-scenes video series across Instagram and TikTok, giving the public a chance to follow the transformation of the space in real time.
