Casino operator expands with city venue swoop
A casino operator has strengthened its market stake with a venue deal.
MERKUR Casino UK has bought Victoria Gate Casino.
Officials say the move for the Leeds-based site highlights its “commitment to supporting the high street and preserving and creating local jobs.”
The casino was bought from a VGC Developments subsidiary.
It comes after MERKUR launched casinos in Aberdeen and Milton Keynes.
The operator was supported on the deal by national legal and professional services firm Knights.
The team was led by corporate partner James Sparks alongside Paul Batchelor, Ashley Simpson and Daniel Bolderston in corporate; Krystal Gibbins and Mark Anton-Smith in real estate; Daniel Mackelden, Milena Falciano-Padron and George Maynard in commercial; and Katie Sharman and Jenny Colver in employment.
Egemen Coskun, MERKUR Casino UK chief financial officer, said: “This casino represents a fantastic opportunity as we continue to grow our UK portfolio.
“We remain committed to investing in quality leisure venues and supporting the future of land-based gaming in the UK.”
James, Knights’ corporate partner, added: “I’m looking forward to seeing the casino flourish, and wish the management and wider team the very best in their exciting venture.”
