Middlesbrough College strengthens leadership team

Middlesbrough College has strengthened its senior leadership team with the appointment of assistant principal for construction, engineering and TTE Jonathan Inglesfield.

Jonathan brings more than 20 years’ experience in further education and extensive knowledge of the construction sector.

He joins the college from Barnsley College, where he served as head of construction, and will lead the continued development of Middlesbrough College’s construction, engineering and TTE provision.

In his new role, Jonathan will oversee curriculum development, strengthen partnerships with industry and create further opportunities for students to progress into skilled employment.

Jonathan said: “From the moment I walked through the doors, I could see there was something special about Middlesbrough College.

“The culture, the staff, the students and the support available really stood out to me.

“One of my biggest priorities is to build on the incredible industry links and outcomes the College currently boasts, ensuring young people have the skills, behaviours and opportunities needed to succeed in employment.

“When I left school, education wasn't really for me, but further education and construction gave me opportunities I might never otherwise have had.

“I care deeply about giving that same chance to young people and ensuring they have the ability to choose and dictate their own future.”

“Above everything else, I'm proud of being able to make a difference and create opportunities for so many young people over a sustained career in education.

“Seeing students progress and succeed is what makes the job so rewarding.”

Originally training and working as a plasterer, Jonathan moved into education through part-time teaching before building a career spanning more than two decades in the further education sector.

His appointment reflects the college’s continued investment in developing industry-focused training and equipping learners with the skills needed to meet the future workforce demands of the construction and engineering sectors.

Zoe Lewis, MBE, principal and chief executive at Middlesbrough College, added: “I am delighted to welcome Jonathan to Middlesbrough College.

“His passion for further education, his deep understanding of construction and engineering and his commitment to creating life-changing opportunities for young people make him a fantastic addition to our leadership team.

“We are incredibly proud of the strong relationships we have with industry and the success of our students, and I know Jonathan will build on these foundations as we continue to develop the skills our region needs for the future.

“His own journey and dedication to helping others succeed embody everything we stand for as a College, and I am excited to see the difference he will make.”
