Lighting firm shines on Dishoom ahead of launch
A lighting firm has helped shine a route for Dishoom’s arrival in Leeds after completing an interior scheme for the restaurant’s new city centre home.
LightsOn.Design designed, supplied and commissioned the lighting for the restaurant, which occupies a Grade II-listed building on Vicar Lane and is due to welcome its first customers on August 14.
The company delivered lighting across all front-of-house areas, including the entrance, dining spaces, bar, open kitchen, bathrooms and exterior, creating a scheme that complements the building’s historic character while supporting the restaurant’s day-to-night operation.
Appointed after working with Dishoom for more than 13 years, LightsOn.Design was selected for its understanding of the restaurant group’s lighting standards and brand identity.
Work began in October 2025 and was completed over nine months, with the design combining lighting with restored vintage decorative fittings sourced from Bombay.
Intelligent lighting controls allow the scheme to adapt throughout the day, moving from brighter daytime settings to a softer evening ambience while improving energy efficiency.
Darren Parnaby, design director at LightsOn.Design, said: “It is a privilege to continue our long-standing relationship with Dishoom, having helped shape the lighting design across its restaurants for more than 13 years.
“The biggest challenge at Leeds was working within a Grade II-listed building with high ceilings.
“We needed to create a scheme that respected the building's historic character while delivering the warm, welcoming atmosphere Dishoom is known for.
“That meant developing bespoke lighting capable of directing light exactly where it was needed without losing the intimacy of the space, while working closely with the wider project team to ensure the design complemented the building's original features.”
Lenny Dennis, project manager at Dishoom, added: “Lighting is central to the atmosphere and experience we create for our guests, so it is important that every restaurant reflects both the character of its building and the Dishoom brand.
“Having worked with LightsOn.Design for many years, the team understands exactly what we are trying to achieve, and the finished scheme captures the warmth and personality of our new Leeds home beautifully.”
The Leeds restaurant is the latest addition to LightsOn.Design’s hospitality portfolio, which also includes projects for The Alchemist, Burger & Lobster and Tattu.
