Trimdon bungalow scheme takes shape

Construction is progressing on a new affordable housing development that will deliver 42 bungalows in County Durham.

The Quarry Road scheme in Trimdon village is being delivered through a partnership between Karbon Homes and Durham Aged Mineworkers’ Homes Association (DAMHA), providing a mix of one and two-bedroom homes for social rent.

Nineteen of the properties will be managed by Karbon Homes, while the remaining 23 will be managed by DAMHA and reserved for residents aged over 55.

Built by Oaktree Living, the development will help increase the supply of affordable housing in the area and contribute towards the Government’s target of delivering 180,000 social rent homes by 2035.

Homes across the development will be built to high energy efficiency standards, with all properties targeting an EPC A rating.

The 19 Karbon-managed bungalows will be equipped with solar photovoltaic panels and air source heat pumps to help reduce energy use and household running costs.

Funding for the scheme has come through Karbon Homes’ strategic partnership with Homes England under the Affordable Homes Programme 2021-26.

Through the partnership, Karbon has secured £184 million to support the delivery of 2327 affordable homes across the North East and Yorkshire by 2026, with the Trimdon development forming part of that wider investment.
