Scuba club 'to make splash' after £1555 boost

A scuba diving club is preparing for deeper waters after four-figure support.

Marlin Sub-Aqua Club has bought four buoyancy control devices.

Bosses say the investment will allow the Nuneaton-based operator to “continue introducing new people to the sport”.

They add the apparatus has replaced equipment used since 2012, with the club backed by a £1555 grant from the Develop Warwickshire Community Fund.

Martin Maple, diving officer at volunteer-run Marlin Sub-Aqua Club, said: “The buoyancy control device is one of the most important pieces of diving equipment because it holds the air tank securely and allows divers to control their buoyancy in the water.

“These are specifically for our try dives, giving complete beginners the chance to experience scuba diving in a safe and controlled environment.

“The grant has enabled us to continue running these sessions safely and ensure more people can enjoy the experience.”

The Develop Warwickshire Community Fund has supported 36 grant applications since January 2024 worth £50,000.

Develop Warwickshire is a joint venture between Warwickshire Property & Development Group, Vistry and Warwickshire County Council.

Stuart Buckley, Warwickshire Property & Development Group managing director, added: “We're delighted this funding has enabled the club to invest in essential safety equipment.

“It’s great to know this funding will help Marlin Sub-Aqua Club continue introducing new people to scuba diving safely.”
