Intercity appoints chief technology officer

Birmingham-based technology solutions provider Intercity has appointed James Pearse as chief technology officer as it continues to invest in its long-term growth strategy.

James joins the business with more than 20 years’ experience, having held senior roles at Atech Cloud, Open Systems and Microsoft.

In his new position, he will lead Intercity’s technology strategy, helping the company drive innovation and support its ambition to reach £100 million in annual revenue by 2030.

He will also oversee the development of the firm’s CTO office and innovation governance model, with a focus on helping customers improve productivity, resilience and AI adoption through technology.

James, who has previously worked on large-scale cloud transformation programmes for the United Nations, said: “Intercity are at a really exciting stage of the journey and at a time where the market is changing quickly.

“Customers are trying to simplify their technology estates, strengthen security, modernise how people work, control cost and understand what AI really means for their business.”

“My aim is that we become a strategic technology partner to customers who want practical advice, strong delivery and someone who can help them make better decisions.”

James added: “We can really make our Microsoft partnership capability a strategic differentiator in my opinion.

“Someone asked me what medium-term success would look like in this role and my answer was simple – to make Intercity a trusted partner that helps customers optimise, secure and scale through Microsoft, AI, security and managed services.”

James’ appointment follows a period of significant growth for Intercity, which has more than doubled its revenue since 2023 and recently completed a £1.8 million investment in an AI-powered technology platform.

The business, which has offices in Birmingham, Bedford, Bolton and Nuneaton, continues to expand its managed IT, Microsoft, cyber security and communications services through organic growth and strategic acquisitions.
