Takeover equals growth for accountancy company

An accountancy and business advisory firm has expanded with a takeover.

DJH has bought Gooding Accounts.

The company says the move for the Wiltshire-based practice marks its first foray into the South West and adds a “technically strong, client-focused” operator to its national portfolio.

Under the terms of the deal, partners Sam and Katy Gooding will continue leading the Trowbridge-based firm.

Founded in 2014, Gooding Accounts is known for working with start-ups, established companies and owner managers, and has further offices in Warminster and Melksham.

Scott Heath, chief executive at Stoke-on-Trent-headquartered DJH, which employs nearly 900 staff across UK and Irish bases, said: “We’ve been building our national footprint in regions where we know we can add real value.

“The South West has been firmly on our radar, and Gooding Accounts is exactly the kind of practice we look for.

“This partnership is not just about growing our geography.

“It is about bringing the full weight of our resources – specialist teams, technology and infrastructure – to support Gooding’s clients.”

Sam, who established Gooding Accounts in 2014, added: “We have built something genuinely special in Wiltshire.

“But we are ambitious, and moving into a larger group gives us the platform to go further.

“The South West deserves access to the kind of specialist expertise that has previously only been available to clients of the larger firms in the cities – and we are now able to deliver just that.”

The deal comes just days after DJH – whose national office network includes bases in Derby, Dublin, Halesowen, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield and Maidstone – agreed a partnership to buy Thorne Widgery.

Officials say the swoop for the Hereford, Ludlow and Shrewsbury-based accountancy firm has added a “connected Midlands and Welsh Borders presence” to its portfolio.
