A week in the life... Will Voisey

Will Voisey, managing director of Harrogate-based Synergy Car Leasing, provides an insight into his typical working week, highlighting how he balances commercial sector demands with life outside the office.

Monday: What gets you motivated for the start of the working week?

I like being positive and coming into work with a plan.

Over the weekend, I make notes on my phone of what I want to achieve in the upcoming week, and ideas for how we can make these things happen.

Everything I do relates to our five-year plan, so these ideas all go back to that and how we can achieve our goals.

I find that having that, and then breaking down the tasks that will help us achieve those goals into smaller chunks, really helps to motivate me and keep us on track.

Tuesday: The diary is full of meetings and commitments – how do you balance such responsibilities with productivity?

I live in my Outlook diary, and I will try not to overload days with back-to-back meetings, so I have time in the day to be productive.

I am also guilty of not giving myself the space to breathe.

I need this space, or I tend to run out of steam in a day.

For me, this is as important as being productive.

Wednesday: Halfway there – how do you stay focused and re-energise yourself for the days to come?

I will take time out to look at where we are against our weekly targets and goals, so we can see what might need to be changed and achieve what we want to.

That could be as simple as updating the top offers on the website, or it could be looking at the vehicles we are featuring to make sure they are right for customers.

Thursday: The weekend draws closer – how do you remain on top of your to-do list as the end of the week gets nearer?

I take great satisfaction in going back to my to-do list and crossing off what I can.

I then re-evaluate what still needs to be done and prioritise what I must do before the close of play on Friday.

This really helps me focus for that final push towards the weekend.

Friday: The last day – how do you approach Fridays, and how do you unwind over the weekend?

Friday is all hands to the pumps, so that we finish the week with a flourish.

I show the team where we need to be and motivate them to get there.

The last couple of hours can be hectic as we work towards finishing the week strongly.

With two young children, there isn’t always much time to unwind at the weekend.

But I always look forward to taking them to their swimming lessons on a Saturday morning, and we like to get away for camping trips with the family when we can.

I find that things like this help me relax and reset.
