Coffee company 'to grind fresh growth' after buyout
A sustainable coffee company says it is brewing up growth plans following a leadership change.
Cafeology has undergone a partial management buyout.
Officials say the move means the Sheffield-based firm’s “journey as a best-in-class coffee company is far from over” and “guarantees a clear vision for the future”.
Founded more than 20 years ago, Cafeology imports, roasts and distributes ethically-sourced coffee to customers including universities, sports venues, independent coffee retailers, cafes and restaurants.
The buyout team is led by head of coffee Steve Hampshire and head of operations Joe Cross.
Under the terms of the deal, shareholders Andy McClatchey, Toni Unkles and Bryan Unkles will remain involved over the medium-term to provide “continuity and ensure a smooth transition for customers, suppliers and staff”.
The move was supported by the South Yorkshire Debt Fund, which is managed by FW Capital on behalf of South Yorkshire Pensions Authority.
Sheffield-based Hart Shaw Corporate Finance advised Cafeology’s shareholders on the majority stake sale.
Bryan, Cafeology founder, said: “This allows us to continue with the ethical culture created across the business.
“This exciting new chapter will not only underpin Cafeology’s future as an independently owned business, but enable sustainable growth with a great involvement of the people who have assisted Andy, Toni and I over many years.”
Alex Gent, FW Capital senior investment executive, said: “We’re excited to back a highly experienced and ambitious management team, and look forward to supporting Steve and Joe’s growth journey moving forward.”
Patrick Abel, corporate finance partner at Hart Shaw Corporate Finance, added: “We were delighted to advise Andy, Toni and Bryan.
“It is particularly gratifying given my long-standing relationship with Bryan, dating back to the very early days of the business in 2001.”
