Energy sector engineer powers up with takeover
A transformer and switchgear firm says it is poised to power ahead after completing a takeover.
BRUSH Group has bought DK Moriarty.
Bosses say the move for the instrument transformer maker marks “another key step” towards bolstering BRUSH Group’s UK production capacity.
They add it also strengthens Loughborough-headquartered BRUSH Group’s “ability to support network resilience, industrial electrification and the UK's evolving energy infrastructure”.
Based in Colchester, and family-owned since 1968, DK Moriarty designs and makes current and voltage transformers for a range of sectors.
Under the terms of the takeover, the 50-staff business will continue operating from its Essex site.
Nicolas Pitrat, chief executive at BRUSH Group, which has further bases in London, Scotland and South Wales, said: “DK Moriarty has built an outstanding reputation for instrument transformers that are trusted across the domestic electricity sector.
“This acquisition strengthens our control over a crucial part of our supply chain, enhancing our technical capabilities and supporting our ambition to deliver even greater value to customers.
“It also reinforces our long-term commitment to investing in UK manufacturing.”
DK Moriarty operations director Sean Moriarty, whose father founded the business nearly 60 years ago, added: “This marks an exciting new chapter for our business.
“By becoming part of BRUSH Group, we can further build on our qualities through access to a wider pool of engineering talent and the resources that being part of a larger organisation brings.”
The deal comes after BRUSH Group earlier this year bought iDESo, the parent company of Prestwick switchgear firm Allenwest and Sheffield’s Baldwin & Francis.
