Commercial interiors firm backs local sport

A York-headquartered commercial interiors specialist has strengthened its support for grassroots sport by becoming the official shirt sponsor of two local teams.

Ben Johnson Interiors is sponsoring both Ben Johnson Cricket Club and Haxby Town Under-7s football team, providing new kits ahead of the upcoming season.

The sponsorship has particular significance for Ben Johnson Cricket Club, whose roots are closely linked to the business.

The company traces its origins back to 1855, when it operated as a York-based printing firm known as Ben Johnson.

More than a century later, employees established the cricket club in 1957.

Today, the club is one of the last remaining works-based teams still competing in the area and has secured promotion to Division Four of the Yorkshire Premier League North for the current season.

Paul Morrison, team captain of Ben Johnson Cricket Club, said: “This partnership feels like a homecoming.

“To be supported by a company that shares not just a name but a deep-rooted connection with our origins means a lot.

“It’s more than just a logo on a shirt – it’s a celebration of York’s industrial and sporting history.”

Haxby Town Under-7s will also wear the company’s branding on their shirts throughout the 2026/27 campaign.

The team competes against clubs from across York and the surrounding area, with home matches played at Oaken Grove Community Centre.

The sponsorship follows a successful period for Ben Johnson Interiors, which recently reported revenue of more than £7 million over the nine months to December 2025 after completing a series of commercial fit-out projects across the UK.

Matthew Day, director at Ben Johnson Interiors, added: “As a successful York-based business, we’re proud to be able to support these two teams and give back to the communities where we operate.

“It’s also particularly exciting because we have so much shared heritage with Ben Johnson Cricket Club.

“Both clubs have been around for many years and give local people and children the opportunity to play sport every week, so it’s great for us to support and be involved with them.

“We’re all looking forward to seeing how their seasons progress and cheering them on.”
