Father and son look to drive forward golf brand

A North East father and son have teed up a new business venture after launching a premium golf clothing brand with ambitions to compete on the international stage.

Brenden Carr, founder of Washington-based engineering firm Caztec Group, has teamed up with his son David to launch FINK, a British golf and lifestyle brand focused on quality, craftsmanship and performance.

For Brenden, who has spent more than 25 years building Caztec Group into a specialist engineering business, the venture represents a new chapter alongside his son.

Founded in 2000, the company employs 20 people and has delivered projects for organisations including Network Rail, Siemens, Scottish Power, Hitachi and the NHS.

The idea for FINK emerged after Caztec Group began supporting a young North East professional golfer.

Recognising an opportunity in the market, Brenden and David set out to create a premium British brand combining technical performance with contemporary styling.

The pair spent months researching the industry, travelling overseas to meet manufacturers, test fabrics and identify production partners before working with a Manchester-based fashion designer to develop their first collection.

While designed to perform on the golf course, the clothing has also been created for everyday wear, reflecting the growing demand for versatile lifestyle apparel.

Brenden said: “I’ve always enjoyed building businesses.

“Engineering has been my business life for over 25 years, but I enjoy creating something new.

“Being able to do that alongside my son makes this project even more special.”

David added: “Brenden has years of business experience and a deep understanding of customers.

“I’ve brought a different perspective, and together we’ve been able to complement each other’s strengths.

“It’s been a great opportunity to work together and learn from each other.

“Building something from the ground up is challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.

“We didn’t want to simply put another golf clothing brand into the market.

“We wanted to create something that had its own identity and represented the standards we believe in.

“Every detail mattered, from the materials and fit to the design and finish.

“We wanted people to pick up a FINK garment and immediately recognise the quality.”

The business has also committed to keeping key elements of the brand in the UK, with artwork, website development, packaging, marketing and online retail all managed domestically.

Rather than relying on traditional advertising, FINK is building awareness through sponsorship of two professional golfers, who wear the brand during competitions in the UK and overseas.

Brenden and David also attend tournaments and golf events to showcase the collection directly to players, retailers and customers.

Brenden added: “Creating a British brand was important to us.

“We wanted UK companies involved throughout the journey and wanted to build something that reflected quality and craftsmanship.

“Golf attracts people who appreciate quality products and attention to detail.

“It is the perfect environment for introducing people to FINK.”

The launch range of nine products has already sold out, attracting orders from customers around the world.

The brand has also been worn by professional golfers, Premier League footballers and England cricketers.

Although Brenden continues to lead Caztec Group, he and David are now focused on expanding FINK, with plans to develop future collections and establish the business as a recognised British golf lifestyle brand.

David added: “The response has been amazing.

“To see people from the sporting world supporting something we have created together is a huge motivation and shows we are building something people believe in.”
