College partnership 'just the tonic' for NHS skills

An education provider has unveiled a medical sector training agreement.

Derwentside College has signed a memorandum of understanding with Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Officials say the move will help “create life-changing opportunities for local people and support the long-term sustainability of healthcare services.”

They add the collaboration has already delivered leadership and communication development programmes for NHS staff and healthcare support worker apprenticeship pathways.

Nicola Raine, assistant principal for business development and technical education at Derwentside College, based in Consett, County Durham, said: “Strong partnerships are essential if we are to develop the skilled workforce our region needs.

“By working closely with Gateshead Health, we can ensure our curriculum reflects the realities of the workplace and provides clear, accessible routes into employment.”

Amanda Venner, Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust director of people, added: “Investing in people is critical to the future success of the NHS.

“By working together, we are creating opportunities that benefit individuals, strengthen our workforce and support the delivery of high-quality care for patients.”
