Tech founder earns national recognition

A County Durham technology entrepreneur has been recognised by Innovate UK for her work tackling challenges within residential construction.

Kate Murray, founder and chief executive of Consett-based housing technology company Ubrix, has been named among 100 recipients of the Innovate UK Women in Innovation Awards.

Nearly 1600 businesses from across the UK applied to the programme, which recognises women founders developing businesses with the potential to deliver economic and societal impact.

Ubrix has developed a software platform designed to address fragmented systems within residential construction by bringing sales, building and aftercare processes together.

The technology enables housebuilders, contractors, housing associations and local authorities to manage the lifecycle of properties from reservation through to the end of the defects period.

Kate will now receive a 12-month tailored business support package alongside access to Innovate UK's national innovation network.

She said: “This recognition is big news for Ubrix, but it is bigger news for housing. 

“A national panel of innovation experts looked at how this industry delivers homes, saw the cost of fragmented systems, and backed our answer to it. 

“Our development pipeline is shaped by the builders, contractors and aftercare teams who live this problem every day. 

“This award tells them the way housing is delivered is changing, and it tells the industry where that change is coming from.”
