Former bus depot makes way for 93-home scheme

A former bus depot in Nottingham is being transformed into a £35 million residential development as work gathers pace on 93 new homes.

Staffordshire-headquartered Cameron Homes has invested more than £9 million in groundworks, infrastructure and construction at Barton Square in Chilwell, Beeston, since starting work in October 2025.

The 4.9-acre scheme forms the second phase of Barton Quarter and will feature apartments, mews and coach houses alongside villa-style properties ranging from two to five bedrooms.

Designed by architect Ben Pentreath, the development is being built on land previously owned by the Barton family since 1913.

A new spine road and access from Holly Lane have been created, while sewer infrastructure and construction of the first homes are progressing.

The first residents are expected to move in during early 2027, with the full development scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.

Homes will incorporate energy-efficient features including solar panels, electric vehicle chargers and smart thermostats, with a high EPC rating targeted.

Lewis Brazier, head of production at Cameron Homes, said: “Brownfield regeneration projects of this nature require considerable up-front commitment.

“Before the first homes are ready to move into next year, we will have invested over £16 million in groundworks, infrastructure and construction to transform the former Barton Bus Depot.

“Barton Square will be an exemplary development project with some very special design characteristics and qualities, which is testament to the legacy approach of Simon Barton and Ben Pentreath’s timeless design style.

“Now the site is open to the public, we’ve been inundated with visitors.”

Cameron Homes, established in 1994, is currently delivering more than 200 properties across 11 developments, with a pipeline expected to provide around 1000 further homes.
