Housebuilder backs inclusive football team
A housebuilder has kicked off a new community partnership by backing an inclusive football team celebrating success on the pitch.
Story Homes has become shirt sponsor of Killingworth FC’s Pan Disability team, which provides opportunities for players with physical, learning and unseen disabilities, including autism.
The sponsorship has funded new playing strips after the squad spent much of its first league season competing in borrowed shirts.
And the new kit has already enjoyed a winning start, with Killingworth wearing it as they lifted the Premier Division Summer Cup.
The success followed a third-place finish in the team’s first league campaign, with players now preparing for the Autumn League.
Davey Scott, manager of Killingworth FC’s Pan Disability team, said: “We’d like to extend a massive thank you to Story Homes for sponsoring our team.
“Their support has given our players a real sense of identity, belonging and pride.
“Winning the Premier Division Summer Cup at the weekend was a brilliant result, and we’re incredibly grateful for their continued support of grassroots disability football.”
Story Homes’ backing comes as the housebuilder increases its presence in the area through its Killingworth Gatedevelopment at Killingworth Moor.
The company has recently taken on the role of principal contractor for the first phase, with groundworks and infrastructure progressing.
Killingworth Gate will deliver 169 two to six-bedroom homes, including affordable properties, alongside new green spaces, landscaping and tree planting.
Its marketing suite is now open, with the sponsorship forming part of Story Homes’ wider commitment to supporting communities around its developments.
Kye Bradley, sales director at Story Homes North East, added: “We’re delighted to support Killingworth FC’s Pan Disability team and provide them with their new playing kit.
“As we build our new Killingworth Gate development nearby, supporting local organisations and making a positive contribution to the community is really important to us.
“Finishing third in their first ever league season and then going on to win the Premier Division Summer Cup is a fantastic achievement, and we’re delighted to have been able to support the team.
“We wish them every success as they head into the autumn league.”
