Beer festival pours £14,000 into good causes

A Yorkshire beer festival has raised more than £14,000 to support community activities and provide respite breaks for children facing adversity.

The Settle Victoria Hall Beer Festival welcomed locals, visitors and beer enthusiasts for three days of ales, ciders and live music at what is billed as the world’s oldest surviving music hall.

Proceeds from the free-to-enter event, founded by Tanya and Mark Wildsmith, will be shared between Settle Victoria Hall and The Principle Trust Children’s Charity.

More than £7000 will go to The Principle Trust, potentially funding week-long respite breaks for seven children and their families, including food hampers.

The charity provides free holidays for families across Yorkshire facing challenges including poor mental health, giving them opportunities to spend time together away from everyday pressures.

Since being founded by Mike Davies MBE in 2011, it has supported more than 6300 children through respite homes in Blackpool, Filey and the Lake District.

Kerry Magson, partnerships and engagement manager at The Principle Trust Children’s Charity, said: “The Settle Victoria Hall Beer Festival is a brilliant example of the community spirit we have here in Settle, while also bringing people from further afield together to enjoy a great day out while supporting two local brilliant causes. 

“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who organised, attended and supported the festival. 

“Their generosity will make a real difference, helping us continue our mission of providing much-needed respite breaks for children and families across Yorkshire.”

The remaining festival proceeds will support Settle Victoria Hall’s programme of arts, cultural and community activities.

This year’s festival was backed by headline sponsor Rathbones, with Walker Foster Solicitors supporting as programme and barrel sponsor.
