New £15 million health hub opens in Belper

A new £15.2 million community health centre has been completed in Derbyshire, bringing a range of outpatient and clinical services together under one roof.

Construction contractor Henry Brothers has delivered the purpose-built facility in Belper for Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust.

Built on the site of the former Belper Clinic within the Babington Hospital site on Derby Road, the centre features 15 consulting rooms, six treatment rooms and a health education group space.

It will accommodate existing outpatient and clinical services previously provided at Babington Hospital, including community nursing, phlebotomy, midwifery, podiatry, physiotherapy, continence advice and speech and language therapy.

Designed by Race Cottam Architects, the facility has also been developed with sustainability in mind.

Built to BREEAM standards, it incorporates rooftop solar panels, while locally sourced and recycled materials from demolished buildings were used where possible alongside timber from certified sources.

The project was procured through the Pagabo Major Construction Works Framework.

Other partners included project manager Capita, civil and structural engineer Eastwood Consulting Engineers and mechanical and electrical engineer EP Consulting.
