Artist draws on funding for new venture

A Coventry-based artist is drawing on more than three decades of experience to bring creative classes to her community after securing an £8500 funding boost.

Shadi Shokoohi, founder of Shadi Fine Art Studio, received a Start Up Loan with support from First Enterprise through the British Business Bank’s Start Up Loans programme.

The funding has enabled Shadi to purchase equipment and studio supplies to launch personalised painting and drawing classes for adults.

Originally from Iran, Shadi studied art before continuing her education at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy.

After moving to the UK, she initially focused on selling her artwork before turning her attention to teaching.

Drawing on more than 30 years’ artistic experience and 15 years as an educator, Shadi created the studio as a welcoming environment where people can develop their creativity and confidence while forming social connections.

The venture has already attracted around 30 active students during its first three months.

Shadi said: “My method combines experience from Iran, Italy, and the UK, helping students develop their own artistic voice while learning in a supportive and welcoming environment.

“The funding enabled me to launch and grow my classes, while continuing my artistic practice. 

“I have retained part of the capital to support future growth, including securing a larger teaching space and business transport.

“My experience with First Enterprise was incredibly positive. 

“Their commitment to supporting small businesses has made a significant difference in my journey. 

“Their assistance has allowed me to develop a body of work that I am proud of, launch my classes, and build a social media following of over 22,000 across TikTok and Instagram.”
