DP Medical backs Rwanda healthcare mission

A medical equipment specialist is supporting a humanitarian healthcare mission in Rwanda with a donation of specialist equipment.

DP Medical has provided a range of ear, nose and throat (ENT) equipment to help healthcare professionals deliver patient care and clinical training during a visit to the country later this year.

The donation includes reusable video laryngoscopes, a rigid otoscope, an LED medical headlight, POV light handles and trachealator balloons.

The mission is being supported by Rwanda Legacy of Hope, a charity working to improve healthcare and opportunities for communities across the country.

It brings UK healthcare professionals together with local clinicians to provide treatment while sharing skills and knowledge.

DP Medical’s support forms part of its Social Value Global Outreach Program, through which the company backs healthcare professionals involved in humanitarian projects in the UK and overseas.

Owen Pemberton, managing director at DP Medical, said: “We are pleased to be supporting this fantastic charity mission once again.

“Last year we donated equipment to the team travelling to Rwanda as part of a charity initiative supporting local clinicians and patients.

“Following the success of that project, we are proud to support the mission once again with a further donation of specialist equipment.

“We want to say a huge thanks to our supplier Besdata from Shenzhen, China, who have kindly donated the reusable endoscopes after our request to support the trip to Rwanda.

“The latest donation will support the team travelling to Rwanda in September.

“The equipment will assist patient care and clinical training, helping healthcare professionals provide vital ENT services in settings where access to specialist resources can be limited.”

Kate Heathcote, a consultant laryngologist taking part in the mission, added: “DP Medical’s efforts and generosity are enormously appreciated.

“We are sure the equipment will make a real difference during this year’s mission.”

Owen added: “The commitment of Kate and the wider team to improving patient outcomes, sharing clinical expertise and supporting colleagues overseas is truly inspiring.

“We wish everyone involved every success with the visit and look forward to hearing about the difference the equipment makes for clinicians and patients in Rwanda.”
