Construction group adds specialist duo

A Teesside construction group has expanded its specialist capabilities with the addition of two North East businesses.

Middlesbrough-based The Applebridge Family has welcomed Hughes Bros Construction and JIG Drainage into its growing group of construction and infrastructure companies.

The move strengthens Applebridge’s offering across housebuilding and specialist drainage services, following a period of growth that has seen the group expand into the Midlands and North West.

Its annual turnover has also increased from £100 million in 2023 to £160 million in 2025.

Darlington-based Hughes Bros Construction has more than 30 years’ experience supporting the housebuilding sector across the North East and Yorkshire.

The contractor works with developers including Barratt Homes, Bellway and Avant Homes, delivering residential developments across the two regions.

Sister company JIG Drainage provides services including drain clearing, CCTV surveys, resin patch repairs, sewer maintenance and drainage infrastructure works.

Operating across the North East and Yorkshire, it supports customers in the construction, commercial and property sectors.

Both companies will retain their existing names while becoming part of the wider Applebridge Family, giving them access to the group’s broader expertise and resources.

Their addition follows Applebridge’s expansion of both its geographical footprint and service offering in recent years, including the launch of new businesses.

The Applebridge Family now comprises nine construction companies, providing services spanning ground investigation, earthworks and plant hire through to civil engineering, multi-utilities, building services and road surfacing across the residential, commercial and infrastructure sectors.
