Brownfield site lined up for 43-home scheme

A vacant former recycling site in Leeds is being lined up for a 43-home affordable housing development.

Breck Homes has completed the unconditional purchase of land on Arthur Street in Stanningley, formerly part of the Infinity Metals recycling centre.

The site, which has been vacant since 2023, is earmarked for a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and two and three-bedroom houses.

Breck is in discussions with affordable housing associations over acquiring the completed development and will now consult local stakeholders before submitting a detailed planning application to Leeds City Council.

“The development of brownfield sites such as this plays a key role in addressing West Yorkshire’s housing need. 

“We want to ensure our scheme maximises the benefits for all residents in the local community, so we will now take the time to engage with all local stakeholders before submitting plans formally.”

The acquisition marks Breck’s sixth development in Yorkshire as it continues to grow its presence across the region.

It is currently working with affordable housing provider Incommunities on three sites in Bradford, totalling 107 homes.

The developer also secured planning permission in August for 120 affordable homes on the site of the former Lloyds data and contact centre in Pudsey, with construction expected to begin later this year.

Breck has also acquired a four-acre site in East Bierley, where it plans to deliver around 70 affordable homes.
