Sustainability drive shapes airport's reopening

An airport is embedding sustainability into its reopening plans with independent assessments covering its operations and supply chain.

Doncaster Sheffield Airport is partnering with EcoVadis to assess environmental, social and governance performance across its physical footprint and suppliers.

The assessments form part of the airport’s wider focus on people, place and planet as preparations for its reopening progress.

EcoVadis will evaluate ESG management across areas including environmental impact, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.

A range of aviation service providers, including ground handling and security businesses, will also be assessed to help ensure they meet environmental, social and workforce standards.

The airport says the approach will place it among a select group of UK airport operators to have similar independent sustainability assessments in place.

Steve Allcoat, head of assets, capital and engineering at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “This work will help to underpin us as a genuine leader in the UK aviation industry through its rigorous sustainability-led approach to supply chain management and onsite services.
