Anchor completes 137-home later living scheme

A £35.9 million development providing more than 130 homes for older people has reached completion in Sutton Coldfield.

Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for people in later life, has marked practical completion of Coles House and Mill Place, with the first residents due to move in shortly.

The development provides 137 one and two-bedroom apartments for people aged over 55, comprising 85 Social Rent homes and 52 available through Older Person’s Shared Ownership.

Residents will also have access to a café, lounge, beauty salon and landscaped gardens.

Alex Whittle, senior development manager for Anchor, said: “The completion of our Sutton Coldfield development marks an exciting milestone for Anchor. 

“Our aim with this site was to provide high-quality homes for older people within a peaceful yet vibrant community, and the development has delivered exactly that.

“It also supports our ambition to provide 500 new homes each year. 

“We look forward to welcoming our new residents and ensuring they receive the very best service as part of our commitment to providing homes where people love living in later life.”

Construction began in March 2024, with the scheme designed to enable older people to remain close to friends, family and familiar surroundings while moving into accommodation suited to their needs.

The project was delivered by Deeley Construction and represents the largest-value development completed in the contractor’s 90-year history.

Anchor is now progressing further developments in Weymouth and Idle, Bradford, as it looks to expand its provision of homes for people aged over 55.
