Sustainable clothing brand lands £250,000 backing

A sustainable outdoor clothing brand is gearing up for growth after securing £250,000 to expand its product range and meet increasing demand.

Bridgwater-based Terreign has received the investment from the British Business Bank’s South West Investment Fund through appointed fund manager The FSE Group.

Founded by Rick Thomas in 2022, the business designs and sells premium outdoor clothing directly to consumers online, with products made using 100 per cent recycled materials, including plastic waste transformed into yarn.

Its range includes hoodies, T-shirts and fleece-lined garments alongside a growing selection of outdoor clothing.

Rick says the £250,000 investment will primarily support stock purchases ahead of the key autumn trading period, while also providing backing for marketing and wider operational growth.

He adds that the funding will be used to broaden Terreign’s product offering, meet increasing demand and attract new customers, while supporting its move into wholesale and the development of new routes to market, including potential partnerships in the healthcare sector.

Rick said: “From day one, the goal has been to create outdoor clothing that people can rely on, without compromising on sustainability.

“We’ve seen a really encouraging response from customers so far, and this investment gives us the platform to take the next step.

“It means we can increase stock, expand the range and continue building a brand that’s focused on quality, practicality and reducing environmental impact.”

Terreign’s growth plans come as demand for sustainable outdoor apparel continues to develop, with the company seeking to combine environmental responsibility with durable, performance-focused clothing.

The investment will support the company as it looks to capitalise on that trend and scale its direct-to-consumer operation while developing new commercial opportunities.

Amanda Sheppard, investment manager at The FSE Group, added: “Terreign has built a strong foundation in a relatively short period of time, with clear demand for its products and a compelling sustainability focus.

“Rick has combined commercial experience with a strong understanding of his market, and we’re delighted to provide the funding needed to scale the business.”

The South West Investment Fund offers loans from £25,000 to £100,000, debt finance up to £2 million, and equity investment up to £5 million, helping smaller businesses access funding they might otherwise struggle to secure.

Lizzy Upton, senior investment manager at the British Business Bank, added: “Terreign has created a distinctive outdoor brand with sustainability at its core.

“This £250,000 investment provides the headroom to build stock, extend its range and reach more customers.

“Investments such as this demonstrate how the South West Investment Fund is helping ambitious businesses across the region access the finance they need to grow, innovate and realise their potential.”
