The Gym Group feeling fit as member rise lifts sales

The Gym Group saw sales jump by a tenth in the first half of the year after increasing prices and topping one million members.

The national low-cost fitness operator reported revenues of £133 million for the first six months of 2026, which were ten per cent better off than the same period a year ago.

Membership numbers topped one million during the period at the firm, whose 260-plus gym portfolio includes bases in London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Manchester and Newcastle.

The uplift in sales was also driven by higher prices for new and some existing members, with a standard membership increasing to £26.91 on average in June compared with £25.10 the prior year.

This pushed up average revenues from each member by five per cent year-on-year.

Pre-tax profits for the group surged by 48 per cent year-on-year to £4.9 million.

The Gym Group – which has further sites in Bristol, Glasgow, Liverpool and Leeds – opened four new gyms in the first half, and says it expects a further 16 openings this year.

Will Orr, chief executive, said: “Reaching one million members during the period was an encouraging milestone for the group.”

He added the company expects to report financial results for the full year at the “top end” of analysts’ current forecast range – which is for adjusted earnings to come in between £60.5 million and £62 million.

The firm’s portfolio also includes gyms in Ayr, Huddersfield, Middlesbrough, Nottingham, Plymouth, Sheffield and Swansea.
