Iceland to expand with Falkland Islands store

Supermarket Iceland is set to open a Falkland Islands store.

The retailer says the move marks a “first” for a UK high street brand in the territory.

Bosses say the standalone outlet will open in Stanley in December and be run alongside local retailer Kelper Stores.

They add it will stock Iceland’s own-label frozen products and brands including Cathedral City, MyProtein and TGI Fridays.

Iceland boss Lord Richard Walker said: “We have a proud history of firsts, and we are proud to be backing Britain by becoming the first UK high street retailer to open in the Falkland Islands.

“The Falklands are a special part of the British family, and it’s always been an ambition of mine to support it.

“This is an important moment for the business and our international aspirations.”

Kelper Stores operates as part of the family-run Fortuna group.

James Wallace, Fortuna managing director, added: “We are committed to investing in the community.

“We are delighted to be working with Iceland on a partnership that will directly benefit Falkland Islands’ people.”
