Chamber appoints new finance director

Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC) has appointed Naveen Gupta as finance director, succeeding long-serving chief financial officer Helen Bates.

Naveen brings three decades of finance experience to the role, having held senior positions across a range of public, cultural and commercial organisations.

His career has included roles with the Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board, Royal Shakespeare Company, University of Oxford and Birmingham music charity B.

He has also worked in finance positions with Jaguar Land Rover and Prudential.

Originally from the East Midlands, Naveen studied at the University of Glasgow, where he gained a master’s degree in international accounting and finance.

He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Naveen said: “I’m honoured to join Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and excited to bring my experience from across the public, private and cultural sectors to support the Chamber’s next chapter.

“The Chamber plays a vital role in championing businesses across the region, and I’m looking forward to help strengthen its financial foundations so it can continue to deliver value for our members.

“Helen Bates leaves an outstanding legacy after nine years with the Chamber. I look forward to building on the strong foundations she has created and working with colleagues, members and partners to extend the Chamber’s impact across Greater Birmingham.

“Together, we can turn our shared ambition into lasting opportunity and prosperity for businesses across the region.”

Naveen’s appointment brings further senior financial experience to GBCC’s leadership team as Helen prepares to retire following nine years with the organisation.

Henrietta Brealey, chief executive of the GBCC, added: “I am delighted to welcome Naveen Gupta to the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce as our new finance director.

“Naveen brings a wealth of financial, commercial and leadership experience, together with a strong track record of delivering sustainable growth and long-term value.

“As the Chamber continues to grow its impact and support for businesses across the region, his expertise will be a real asset.

“I'm looking forward to working with Naveen as part of our senior leadership team as we build on our strong foundations and continue delivering for our members and the wider business community.

“Throughout her time with the GBCC, Helen has demonstrated outstanding leadership, dedication and commitment to our long-term success.

“Thanks to her contribution, the Chamber is well placed for the future, and we wish her every happiness in her well-deserved retirement.”
