Gentoo welcomes 14 new apprentices

Housing association Gentoo Group has welcomed 14 new apprentices as it continues to invest in skills and career opportunities for local people.

The new recruits have joined teams across the organisation in trade, housing and estate services roles, combining practical experience with training and qualifications designed to support their long-term careers.

The majority of this year’s intake are Sunderland-headquartered Gentoo customers, while others have joined through the Gentoo Trades Academy, a partnership between the housing provider, Sunderland College and Bishop Chadwick Catholic Trust.

The 14 apprentices secured their places following a competitive recruitment process and will receive structured training, hands-on experience and dedicated support throughout their programmes.

Brooke Stokoe, who has recently started her apprenticeship in housing with Gentoo, said: “I am really excited to start my career with Gentoo. 

“Everyone has been welcoming and supportive, and I’m looking forward to learning new skills, gaining experience and developing my career.”

During their first week, the apprentices met colleagues from across Gentoo and learned more about the organisation and the role its teams play in supporting customers and communities throughout Sunderland.

The latest intake builds on more than two decades of investment in apprenticeships by Gentoo.

Since 2001, the organisation has created hundreds of apprenticeship opportunities, helping people gain workplace experience, develop new skills and take their first steps towards long-term employment.

The programme forms part of Gentoo’s wider commitment to investing in training and development while creating opportunities for people from the communities it serves.
