House prices climb across North East
The North East housing market is showing renewed momentum after property prices recorded the strongest annual increase in the UK.
House prices across the region rose 4.9 per cent in the year to July 2026, according to the latest UK House Price Index from HM Land Registry.
Prices also recorded the UK’s largest monthly increase between June and July, climbing 1.1 per cent to an average of £167,000.
Housebuilder Miller Homes has welcomed the figures, pointing to the results as evidence of a resurgence in demand for new homes across the region.
The company, which operates developments across the North East, reported its most successful year to date in the region last year and expects momentum to continue through 2026.
Lauren Angus, sales director at Miller Homes North East, said: “House prices are always a good barometer for the health of the economy and this rise reflects a growing demand for newbuild homes we’re seeing across our portfolio.
“Demand in the North East took off last year and continues to grow, and it’s not just in one location, it’s across the whole region.
“People are keen to move on and move up or just take their first step on the property ladder and we have lots of ways helping them realise their ambitions.”
Lauren added: “Despite economic headwinds, 2025 proved to be one of our best on record in the North East and with more developments set to come to fruition throughout the second half of this year, we are confident that we will continue to build on these solid foundations as demand for high-quality, energy-efficient homes continues to rise.”
