Citation Group appoints technology chief
Wilmslow-headquartered compliance software and services provider The Citation Group has appointed Steve Homan as chief technology and data officer.
Steve brings more than 25 years of experience in private equity-backed software businesses, including building a marketplace at The Instant Group and leading a 220-strong engineering team at Metapack through to its sale.
He is also co-founder of AI My Site and has previously held senior technology roles at Daily Mail Group and Fitness First.
In his new role, Steve will support Citation’s continued investment in technology and artificial intelligence, with new AI-powered capabilities being developed across its product portfolio.
He succeeds Nic Sheen, who is retiring from full-time executive work after five years with the group, during which he helped bring together its product and technology offering.
Steve said: “There's a lot to build on at The Citation Group – strong tech, fantastic products, and real ambition behind the growth of the last few years.
“I’ve spent time working hands-on with AI-native tooling, building first-hand fluency in how it’s reshaping what teams can deliver and at what pace.
“I’m looking forward to bringing that experience into a business that's scaling as fast as The Citation Group is.”
Steve’s arrival comes amid continued growth for Citation across the UK, Canada and Australia.
Founded in 1995, the group now employs almost 2000 people and supports more than 120,000 businesses through a portfolio of over 15 products spanning areas including HR, health and safety and wider business compliance.
Chris Morris, chief executive of The Citation Group, added: “Nic Sheen has done a brilliant job over the last five years, and as he transitions into retirement, we were looking for someone to build on that foundation.
“We’re investing heavily in AI, including expanding our dedicated AI team, and Steve is the perfect leader to drive that forward.
“He’s got a track record of building engineering teams that scale fast and deliver commercially.
“That’s exactly what we need to take our technology and data strategy into its next phase.”
