JD Sports in 140-plus-shop Mexico expansion plan
Retailer JD Sports is set to expand into Mexico.
The tracksuits and trainers chain has unveiled a 140-plus-shop move.
Bosses say the “exciting milestone” venture will be delivered alongside franchise partner Grupo Axo.
They add the move will allow the Bury-based operator to tap into a “thriving” activewear market led by demand for running, football and fashion items.
Set to begin next year, the London Stock Exchange-listed retailer says Grupo Axo will operate more than 140 JD premises in the South American country, with key shops expected to be upsized and refurbished under the group’s “bigger and better” format.
Regis Schultz, chief executive, said: “JD’s product offer aligns closely with consumer demand in Mexico, and we believe our position at the intersection of sport, music and fashion will deepen the connection we have with that consumer.
“This partnership is another important step in our ‘JD Brand First’ strategy and reinforces our ambition to make JD the leading global sports fashion destination across the world’s most attractive consumer markets.”
Grupo Axo is known for supporting brands’ growth plans in Mexico, Chile, Peru and Uruguay.
