Carbon monitoring firm eyes growth after takeover
An emissions monitoring firm has unveiled expansion plans following a takeover.
SmartCarbon has been bought by private equity firm TVI Group.
Officials say the move will “accelerate the development of the business’ technology platform and support its next phase of growth”.
They add it will bolster Newcastle-based SmartCarbon’s calculator and reporting platform with “enhanced automation and artificial intelligence capabilities”.
Under the terms of the deal, founder Anna-Lisa Mills will remain with the business in its consultancy team, with ex-Hewlett Packard senior boss Ian Whittaker becoming chair.
Established in 2016, SmartCarbon counts work with Newcastle Hospitals Trust, high street baker Greggs, Durham University, housing provider Thirteen Group, Newcastle City Council and UCL Hospitals London among its portfolio.
It has also partnered with Northumbria University to deliver carbon footprint training and a green skills e-learning module.
Lee Jackson, SmartCarbon managing director, said: “This acquisition brings great experience in technological innovation and a shared commitment to SmartCarbon’s longstanding values and purpose of driving carbon reduction in business.”
Anna-Lisa added: “When SmartCarbon was founded, the ambition was to give organisations the tools and knowledge needed to take genuine action on carbon emissions.
“I’m incredibly proud of how far the business has come, and I’m excited to remain part of its journey as we build on those foundations as a TVI Group business.”
