G&H welcomes eight new apprentices
Leeds-headquartered mechanical, electrical and public health services provider G&H has welcomed eight new apprentices as it continues to invest in developing technical talent.
The recruits will spend between 18 months and five years combining hands-on training across office and site-based roles with academic study at Leeds College of Building and Heart of Yorkshire.
Working alongside experienced colleagues, each apprentice will gain practical industry experience while working towards a professional qualification.
Among the intake is 27-year-old electrical apprentice Dan Brook, who has switched careers after spending seven years in IT and technical support.
Dan self-funded his Level 2 and Level 3 electrical diplomas before completing a week of work experience with G&H, which led him to apply for an apprenticeship with the company.
Dan said: “I really enjoyed my onsite work experience. I gained an insight into what G&H did and what it would be like working for them.
“When I found out they were open to taking on someone already part way through their qualification, I submitted my application.
“My route into the apprenticeship was a little different, having spent seven years working in IT and technical support, but many of my existing skills were transferable to the electrical industry.
“Since starting, I’ve really enjoyed putting my training into practice and learning from experienced people.
“For me, the apprenticeship is about more than gaining a qualification; it’s about developing my skills and building a career for the future.
“Changing careers and starting again as an apprentice was a big decision, so I was pleased to be offered the opportunity and see my hard work pay off.”
Established in 1998, G&H designs, delivers and maintains mechanical, electrical and public health engineering solutions for clients across the UK, providing services spanning design and installation through to long-term maintenance.
Paul Churchill, development manager at G&H, added: “There is more than one route into a successful career, as Andy Burnham has highlighted with a renewed focus on technical education.
“From the beginning, apprenticeships enable talented people to enter the construction industry, gain recognisable qualifications, and develop valuable, hands-on experience.
“It is fundamental to the success of G&H and the wider industry that we provide meaningful opportunities to people who have the ambition to succeed in the construction industry.
“I’m pleased to welcome our new apprentices to G&H and look forward to watching them develop, contribute to our clients and grow with us.”
