Cathie appoints new managing director
Newcastle-headquartered offshore geoscience and geotechnical engineering consultancy Cathie has appointed Sonja Ternier as managing director to lead its next phase of international growth.
Sonja joined the business in 2024 as European operations manager and has since helped strengthen operational performance and support delivery of its strategic objectives across international markets.
She brings more than 20 years’ leadership experience, including a decade as a managing director, with a track record of growing businesses, expanding operations and developing teams.
Before joining Cathie, Sonja was managing director – Benelux at testing, training, inspection and certification company TÜV Austria.
Her career also includes leadership roles at TNO, IBA and Kiwa.
In her new role, she will focus on growing Cathie’s international client base, driving innovation across its geoscience and geotechnical engineering services and scaling its cross-border engineering team.
Sonja said: “I am incredibly proud to take on the role of managing director at Cathie.
“Since joining the business two years ago, I have been inspired by the expertise, dedication and collaborative culture of our people.
“This is a company which brings together bright minds, focused expertise and global collaboration, whilst fostering a culture of respect and inclusion, all underpinned by a relentless commitment to delivering outstanding results.
“As a woman with a scientific background, I’m particularly proud to be part of an organisation that values diversity, collaboration and expertise.
“The breadth of talent across our business, including the many talented female engineers in our team, reflects the inclusive culture we have built.
“We have created an environment where people are trusted, supported and given the flexibility to succeed, and I look forward to strengthening that culture as we continue to grow.
“We are the forefront of creating leading-edge innovative solutions which overcome market challenges and we work as a strategic partner with our customers, ensuring that they can achieve the best outcomes for their projects.
“This approach – and our track record in delivery – gives us a strong foundation to build on, and I’m thrilled to be working with our teams and stakeholders as we continue on our growth journey.”
