Optegra appoints leading eye surgeon

Eye hospital group Optegra has appointed Darshak Patel as consultant ophthalmic surgeon to support cataract and vision correction patients across its southern hospitals.

Darshak joins after four years at London Vision Clinic, where he specialised in cataract and refractive surgery as lead lens surgeon.

He will provide NHS and private cataract surgery alongside vision correction treatments, working from Optegra’s Queen Anne Street hospital in London as well as clinics in Hounslow and Maidstone.

Darshak trained in London before completing two years of fellowships in corneal transplant surgery at the Western Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Darshak, who visited a number of Optegra hospitals ahead of his appointment, said: “I was very impressed with the premium nature of Optegra – in terms of the facilities, technology, quality of care, systems and protocols in place.  

“It is a very well-oiled machine.

“I feel very comfortable with the hospital’s approach, while also having the autonomy to advise on the most suitable treatments for individual patients.

“I also admired how hard-working and committed all the clinical teams were at each site I visited – standards are very high and it was impressive.”

Darshak’s appointment adds further specialist expertise to Optegra, which provides ophthalmic services including cataract surgery, lens replacement, laser eye surgery and treatments for conditions such as glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration.

Established in 2007, Optegra operates 74 eye hospitals across the UK and Europe and performs more than 170,000 privately and publicly funded treatments each year.
