Lantern makes ‘statement of intent’ with office move

A building surveying firm is expanding its Newcastle headquarters.

Lantern Building Consultancy has taken an office 50 per cent larger than its previous space at Generator Studios on Trafalgar Street, where it has signed an eight-year lease.

The RICS-registered practice, founded in 2021 by directors Martin Smith and Alex Carter, first moved into the building two years ago.

Its new second-floor office includes open-plan workspace, meeting pods and dedicated breakout, kitchen and reception areas.

Alex said: “As we approach our fifth anniversary, this new office is a real statement of intent for us. 

“We’ve grown steadily since we started the business in 2021, and this move gives us the space to keep building the team.

“Staying at Generator Studios was an easy decision; it’s a great environment for our people and it says a lot about the kind of business we want to be. 

“With a strong pipeline of work across the region and beyond, this feels like the right moment to invest in our home and set ourselves up for the next stage of growth.”

The move comes as Lantern continues to grow its nine-strong team, with Lauren Walker recently joining the business and further recruitment planned.

Turnover increased by 20 per cent last year, with Lantern targeting further growth during the current financial year.

Its expanding project portfolio includes more than £1 million of work for Entain Group and three new supermarket schemes across Newcastle and Northumberland.

The consultancy is also delivering an education refurbishment in Rotherham and overseeing the relocation of a post office in Spennymoor.

Lantern also continues to work with Northumberland County Council on its housing portfolio, including redevelopment feasibility studies, alongside providing surveying support to Bernicia Group.

Max Bertin, who joined the firm in 2025 and was recently promoted to associate director, added: “We’re thrilled with our new office.
