EGO eyes ‘lasting legacy’ with facility expansion

A technology recycling company is creating 36 jobs after investing more than £100,000 to expand its Bradford operations.

EGO Technology has officially opened its enlarged 36,000sq ft waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) processing facility, increasing its capacity to recover and recycle redundant technology.

The site, which currently employs 24 people, was officially opened by Lord Mayor of Bradford councillor Sir Chris Herd.

EGO plans to create the additional roles over the next 12 to 24 months across processing, IT, engineering, environmental and logistics operations.

The company also plans to provide training in areas including WEEE processing, data security, material recovery, testing and refurbishment, creating pathways into the growing green technology and circular economy sectors.

Expansion of the facility, where equipment is dismantled and separated for reuse, recycling or material recovery, is expected to increase capacity from around 170-190 tonnes per month to between 250 and 380 tonnes over the next year.

Ian Austin, group chief executive of EGO Technology, said: “Bradford was built by pioneers, industrialists, innovators and philanthropists who created opportunity and lasting change.

The site works alongside EGO Technology’s Technology Recovery Centre in Burton upon Trent, providing services spanning secure IT asset disposal and data management to refurbishment and material recovery.

EGO is also working with the Department for Work and Pensions to create employment pathways for young people, alongside expanding its prison training workshops.

Councillor Herd added: “It was a pleasure to officially open EGO Technology’s new facility and see first-hand the investment being made here in Bradford.

“It’s particularly encouraging to see a business investing not only in new technology and sustainable practices, but in local jobs, skills and opportunities for people in our district.
