Breck unveils plans for 300-home scheme
A Northern property developer is planning its largest affordable housing scheme to date after exchanging contracts on a West Yorkshire site earmarked for around 300 homes.
Breck Homes is set to develop the land at Lees Hall Road in Dewsbury, which forms part of the 400-acre Dewsbury Riverside allocation in Kirklees Council’s Local Plan.
Proposals include a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses, alongside open space and play areas.
The land is being acquired from the Diocese of Leeds, with property agent Stephensons acting on the transaction.
A spokesperson for the Diocese of Leeds said: “The Diocese of Leeds is pleased to be playing a part in making sure people have access to affordable housing, in line with the goals of the Church of England’s ‘Coming Home’ report.
“The report, commissioned by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in response to the housing crisis, sets out actions for the Church, Government and other stakeholders with a focus on building better communities and homes, not just houses.”
The scheme represents Breck’s seventh development in Yorkshire as it continues to expand across the county.
It is already working with affordable housing provider Incommunities on three Bradford developments totalling 107 homes and recently secured planning permission for 120 affordable homes at a former Lloyds Bank data centre in Farsley.
Further sites in Stanningley and East Bierley are set to deliver another 113 homes.
Nigel Robson, managing director – Yorkshire, at Breck Homes, added: “We’re excited to progress plans for 300 high-quality affordable homes.
“There is significant demand for affordable housing across the district.
“A development of this scale can play a key role in meeting that need, while creating a new community for people and families.
“The acquisition underlines Breck’s commitment to making a positive impact across Yorkshire.
“We now look forward to working with Kirklees Council and local stakeholders as we develop our plans.”
