Planning approved for 80-job office expansion
A Northumberland business park is set to expand with new office space capable of accommodating up to 80 employees after securing planning approval.
Prestwick Park, near Newcastle International Airport, has been granted permission for the first phase of an expansion within a 2.5-hectare employment allocation included in the Northumberland Local Plan.
The initial development will comprise a 680sq metre office building, with further expansion planned as the Wilson family, which owns and manages the estate, looks to support investment and jobs-led growth.
The application was brought forward with support from rural planning, architecture and landscape practice Rural Solutions, with early interest reported from existing and prospective occupiers.
The Wilson family said: “We are delighted to have secured permission for this new office building.
“Prestwick Park has been home to a successful business community for more than 20 years, and this investment will help us respond to demand for more high-quality workspace while supporting new jobs and the park’s continued growth.”
Established in 2005 through the conversion of former agricultural buildings, Prestwick Park is home to a community of small and medium-sized businesses and has been fully occupied for some time.
The new building has been designed as a contemporary addition to the park, using local stone and metal roofing alongside provision for on-site renewable energy.
Plans also include glazing paired with timber louvres to provide solar shading while creating “light-filled spaces” that make the most of surrounding views.
The scheme benefits from links to Newcastle International Airport, the Metro and nearby Ponteland, with the additional space aimed at helping businesses establish and grow.
James Ellis, planning director at Rural Solutions, added: “This consent is an important milestone for Prestwick Park and reflects the strength of this location for sustainable, jobs-led growth.
“It will deliver additional high-quality workspace close to the airport and Metro, while responding carefully to the character of the existing park.
“It also supports the estate’s continued contribution to the local area.”
